Body/Land/Home Group Exhibition Brighton Photo Fringe 2024

Body / Land / Home presents the work of four artists who each centre the body in their photographic practice: the body as the subject itself – with all its perfectly imperfect dimples and wrinkles; the body as a conduit for kinship with the land; and the body as home for the self and the soul, when home is a hard feeling to find.

Threads of recognition shimmer between these artists’ bodies of work: connection to place ~ photography as experiment ~ belonging in landscape ~ divine mortality ~ black and white tones ~ democratising beauty ~ nudity ~ physicality ~ brave honesty

Through this web of interconnection, the artists ask whether we can say more with the body and photography than our current culture has told us we can? Can the camera tell stories of bodies that still possess their full agency and – if so – what kind of stories might these be?

ZOINK by Zaptronic

“Tobias Slater-Hunt creates the most interesting shapes with bodies and his camera. Bodyscapes are a common theme among photographers but these images are beyond anything we’ve seen in this genre. Also notice how you can almost feel the flesh in those beautiful grey tones.”

Zoink by Zaptronic was founded in 2011 as a design studio but its purpose has changed a lot over the years. Today it functions as a platform to promote and sell art-photography. We strive to be a broad and open platform for all types of art photography lovers. We showcase work from unknown contemporary artists to more more known artists, not bound by genre and with the believe that everything should be possible in art.

We promote photography by publishing inspirational photography stories online and by publishing high quality photo books, zines and prints. Until this point we primarily published the work of our founder Janko Bosch but we’re open to publish work by other artist. Our goal is to provide a high quality platform for art, design and book lovers.

ITCHY SILK: CULTIVATING PROVOCATIVE THOUGHT THROUGH WORD, SOUND AND IMAGES.

Tobias Slater-Hunt a photographer and teacher from Brighton brings his exploration of physical identity, sexual identity, notions of beauty and disfigurement in his brilliant body of work. His images of nude human bodies challenge our notions of ‘beauty’. They are stark and at times cause deep physical shock.

Let’s be frank. Accosted by the constant stream of the need for ‘body beautiful’ it’s hard not to physically react when faced with images that show bodies disfigured-they challenge us.

Tobias Slater-Hunt has a number of amazing projects like Phenotype and The Quotidian Body, but Closer To God is the most absorbing. Up close and personal with stunning detail we come face to face with human disfigurement. But this is not a project about shock per se. Indeed we should not shy away from the fact that our initial reactions maybe shock or something more. Rather we should allow the reaction to force us to consider this whole movement of beauty.

ELOQUENCE International Photo Exhibition Sapporo

Very happy to be included in this group exhibition in Japan. it always saddens me that I cannot very often get to these shows that take place over seas. Such a wonderful opportunity to see some inspiring work and meet like minded people.
